Mr. Leverett was born November 19, 1922, in Southbend, Texas, to Oscar Meadows and Pattye Burgess Leverett. They moved to Longview in 1930. He graduated from Longview High School where he met Helen Joyce Draper. He won her heart with chocolate kisses and married Joyce on June 7, 1943. He was in the U.S. Fourth Marine Corps Division, serving in Saipan, Tinian, Guam and Iwo Jima, and he was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps League. Mr. Leverett owned and operated Gregg Alarm Service, the first local alarm service in Gregg County for 37 years. He was a member of First Christian Church and president of Loyal Men's Class for many years. Joyce and Manton enjoyed many years of travel that took them to various parts of the United States. One of their favorite destinations was Branson, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Ray Leverett Sr.; and his brother, George Leverett Sr. Mr. Leverett is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce; daughter, Patricia and husband, Terry Couvillion; sister, Jane and husband, Thomas Beloney, all of Longview; sister-in-law, Lee Leverett of Richardson; brother-in-law, Gene and wife, Judy Draper of Bryan, Texas; sister-in-law, Jewel Draper; sister-in-law, Freddie and husband, James Wood; sister-in-law, Bobbie and husband, Tom Whitehead, all of Longview; grandchildren, Michelle and Shane Gregg of Kilgore, Melody Couvillion of Sedona, Ariz., Stacy and Noah Keifer of Gladewater, Tracy and Brian Green of Kilgore, Carl and Lori Fyffe of Virginia, Michael and Renee Leverett of Kilgore, James Leverett of Cloverdale, Ore.; Andy Rivera and Luke Leverett of Athens; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
